Because I have a thing for history - and I didn't leave for work until 11 a.m. - I thought I would have the TV on in the background whilst I puttered around the house. Well I didn't get much puttering done. I was pretty much riveted to the set. I was completely engrossed with all the past presidents and their wives, and their interaction; our elected - and appointed - officials that have been in the news, and their interaction; the massive numbers of people - some of whom I know were so far away they couldn't possibly see what was going on - and the looks of hope and gratitude on their faces; the historical nature of an outgoing president stepping aside for a new president taking over the reins; the swearing in of our first African American President - and the national pride I feel for a country that would cast enough votes for someone-who-is-not-white for that to happen; for the pride and gratitude I feel for living in a country that allows for a clean, bloodless, and easy transition of power. Not only was I glued to the set, but actually got all misty-eyed and could not sit down while President-elect Obama was making his "entrance" to the ceremony. I didn't vote for him - and still wouldn't if I had to do it all over again, but I don't understand how any American couldn't have similar feelings as the ones mentioned above. I am so blessed to live in such a country.
